friendship tuesday.

December 9, 2009

H ave you ever seen anyone give birth? i have. and lets just say you have to be pretty special to be allowed to see something so important and personal. and equally, you must reallllly like someone to allow them watch you give birth. which is why my friend Emily saw Harper come into the world and i got to watch her little lady, Poppy, being born 5 months later. there is an unspoken trust between you and someone who has seen your lady bits. modesty flies out the window. i remember a few days after H was born, Emily was sitting on my couch and my milk had just come in. my nipples resembled ground beef from my monster child (sorry family) and i was in shock at the size of my hoohaas. even though i was enjoying a vicodin/800mg ibuprofin cocktail, i do specifically remember just unclasping my nursing tank and letting the girls loose while exclaiming “look at my boobs!” and we both pointed and laughed hysterically at the misfortune that was my chest.

months later as we visited Em, David and just days old Poppy, the guys had to leave the room so Em could breastfeed. David asked “do you want Mandy to leave, too?” and Emily said “Mandy has seen my b-hole, so no”.

as i’ve posted before, we used to get together every single friday before the girls came along. and although we try to keep up a weekly get together, the past few months have been crazy for all parties involved (new jobs, lost jobs, swine flu [David and Harper], croup [Poppy] and tons of colds [um, all of us really]) and before we knew it, it had been WAY too long since we’d seen eachother. but today, finally, us girls had a playdate. ::happy dance::

we joked about how we should have made a list about all the things we needed to talk about. but really, we should have. but luckily we have a constant topic : how we’ve managed to make such cute, quirky babies.

I just recently found your blog and I look forward to checking it everyday! Harper is absolutely gorgeous! I love her beautiful eyes. She will be a knock out when she is older.
I also love all your homemade items, especially the hair clips. I wish I was crafty. Must learn! :-)
Cherish your friendship, close friends are hard to find these days!

seriously, lady – i’m typing up interview questions before our next visit so i can make sure to cover everything i’ve been meaning to ask you! (; yesterday was so lovely and fun and DAMN i had MISSED YOU! loved the account here of how there’s a total breakdown of modesty between us. you’re literally the only person in the world other than david who i’d allow to see me nekkid. and there’s something comforting about that… hehe!

david was stoked on all the treasures i found at animal crackers. he was like, “you’ve gotta take all the tags off and get them in the washer! and you should put her in the skirt right away, cause it’s amazing.” darling boy! glad we both found great stuff, and the bebes did so great being out and about. harper is such a great cool kid – it was fantastic to see her walking and bopping around, and i love that she’s a natural goofball! she’s always such a treat, and i’m so happy that my girl will be raised knowing and loving her too.

anyways, i just realized this comment is basically a messy ramble – please excuse me, i haven’t had any coffee yet today…

love you so much, my most special friend! xoxo!

This is awesome. Number one, they are so cute together. Number two, I am jealous that you guys have each other and that Poppy and Harper will grow up together so close in age and with mommies that are BFF. None of my close friends have kids yet, and it is kind of lonely.

Well duh. I also have family in Seattle and Vancouver… contemplating a visit in the next couple of years actually. The pacific northwest is definitely on our list of places we would consider moving to. If only we could sell our house someday… : (

Seriously SERIOUSLY just laughed out loud. Omigosh. My BF and I fought tooth and nail to try and get her into the OR for Ben, but stupid hospital and their “one person only” rule. That’s one of the thousand reasons c-sections suck. Your girls are TOO CUTE. and dying over the cuteness of their names too. My BF was actually going to name her 4th *she didn’t find out what she was having) Harper but he came out with boy bits =)
