review & giveaway :: eebee’s mix&mash adventures

November 24, 2009

O f all the things that come along with having an older baby (i still will not call her a toddler), mealtime can be one of the more trying times of the day. it’s messy and if your little one is anything like Harper, it can end in tantrums, spitting things out and throwing food on the ground for the dogs to clean up (or you if you don’t have dogs). there have been a few meals in our house that have ended in tears (mine ironically) because H has refused to eat. she’s picky. like, really picky.

so when i received an email asking to review eebee’s Mix&Mash Adventures, i was both nervous (because my kid thinks she can survive on pancakes and mac&cheese alone) and excited to get some new ideas. eebee is one of only 3 shows that actually enthralls Harper, so i was stoked to get started. eebee’s Mix&Mash Adventures is a fun and cute parent/baby interactive cookbook that encourages making meals and snack with your baby while playing, learning colors and nutrition, and best of all, bonding through food.

with the unique and (my favorite) easy recipes, i learned an important lesson : give into the mess. it can all be cleaned up. Harper had so much fun getting her hands in the ‘Cur-eed Rice & Bananas’ that i couldn’t help but ignore the fact that a lot of it ended up in her hair.

the book comes with an interactive DVD, which would be perfect to play along while you cook/eat if you have a small tv in your kitchen (we don’t, but Harper enjoyed the DVD just as much in the living room after her meal). with cute recipe names (Blueb-eebee Soup) and fun directions (mash, mush, moosh, OLÉ!), we had fun together and hallelujah, no one cried.

buy it :: pick up eebee’s Mix&Mash Adventures at Barnes & Noble, Amazon or head on over to eebee.com to buy it. it will make a great gift for your favorite baby (6 months or older). and it’s so new, chances are the recipient has never seen or heard of it before (no embarrassing duplicate gifts) :]

win it! :: Every Baby Company has offered to give one lucky HH reader a copy of the book and DVD! to enter, leave a comment on this post and feel free to vent about your feeding woes or any tips you’ve found to work at mealtime.

to get more entries, do any (or all!) of the following, comeback and leave a new comment for each, stating what you did so that each comment counts as an entry:

    Hi there- I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and thought I’d emerge to say hello! I’m an American living in Cardiff, Wales, and expecting my first baby in April. I have recently started blogging as well ( http://cymrubaby.blogspot.com ), and am figuring out this whole scene!

    Hi cuz!!!!!!! I’m glad you’re finally giving into the mess, you don’t have to enter me into the drawing, I just wanted to say that there’s nothing wrong with being picky LOL. but you might ask my mom (or dad) for some tips dealing with a picky child (aka me lol) But just remembered I survived childhood (and still do survive) on mac and cheese, and crackers and cheese……….just thought I’d throw that tidbit out there!!!!!!

    give Harper a big hug (give each other hugs from me!!!!!!) love you and miss you!!!!!!!!

    Ohhhh mealtime …… sometimes my stomach gets into knots just thinking about it because I never know what she’ll eat! Between the multiple meal offerings I prepare for her and the mess that inevitably hits the floor while my picky eater “picks”, my kitchen ends up looking like an atomic food bomb went off by the end of the meal. I’m pretty sure this book could save my sanity :)

    We have begun struggling with mealtime more and more, because Piper is at the stage where she only wants to feed herself and gets mad when we try to feed her. For me the frustration comes not (well, mostly not) from the mess, but from not being able to tell if she’s getting enough of the foods she needs to grow healthy and strong and have a balanced diet. When she feeds herself it’s still so hit or miss (honestly watching my kid try to eat spaghetti is like watching the drunk sorority chick who fell for the “no I swear, if you try you CAN lick your elbow” line at a frat party) that I worry that she’s not getting enough of the good stuff. I also have noticed that when I try to cook she wants to be with me, but I worry about keeping her safe in the kitchen. I would LOVE to win this giveaway to get some new ideas for things we can start doing together. As a working mom, mealtimes are sometimes the only real focused time I have with her during the work week, and it gets very disheartening to spend that time fighting her day after day.

    This looks awesome! Elijah is actually a pretty good eater, but I am a big baby about messes too, so it’s nice to hear I’m not alone! I am trying really hard to let him have fun and realize it can just be cleaned up, and I have to say it’s getting easier! :) ~Justine

    Oh and if it makes you feel any better about the messiness our pediatrician told me it’s important for them to get their hands in it and squish around and get it in their hair and stuff because that’s part of how they learn about textures. It’s… educational. Yeah. That’s it.

    Great giveaway! Just yesterday Ku and I were talking about Bresho’s love-hate relationship with food. Some days he LOVES bananas and makes yummy faces, some days he HATES bananas and has tantrums at the table. Lately, he’s been spitting food like a mad person and it goes everywhere: the wall, the floor, my face, my hair, his hair… I wonder if this means he is going to be a picky eater… it would totally be mommy karma because I was the worst eater in the world as a baby.

    Just wanted to let you know that Kendall survives on bananas most of the time! That is the one thing that I KNOW she will eat no matter what. But, the pickiness is getting better (she used to refuse anything off of a spoon). Hope Harper gets through the picky phase soon!

    I’m HH fan on Facebook! You already knew that. I don’t have a picky eater at all. Infact, I pretty much have no good stories about eating. He’s just a normal baby, smearing food everywhere and throwing it on the floor for Lu and Oliver. :)
