what a day.

April 1, 2009

yesterday our little lady turned 5 months old. i just can’t believe it! it seems like time is flying by. yesterday was Scot’s second day of work (i’ll add that we are not big fans…even though we are so thankful for the job, it is taking a lot of adjusting) and i decided to take a drive to Southcenter. i packed up Harper, a quick stop at the ‘bucks drivethrough, and we were off. (sidenote: i asked for a grande nonfat sugarfree vanilla latte – it’s the eternal barista in me that always orders as i was taught – but apparently starbucks calls that a ‘skinny vanilla latte’. alls i’m saying is that you should just make my drink and not correct me. kthanksbye.) now, i really dislike malls, but i am willing to go to them because they have what i’m after – stuff. but i must say, i really enjoyed this mall experience. it’s remodeled and has a bunch of new stores. first of all, it has a parking garage. score. it was raining a bit, but it didn’t bother me as i successfully got out the stroller, attached my diaper bag, inserted the nugget and my cup of joe in the cupholder. no wind, no wet hair, awesome.

anywho, we spent much of the day there, i picked up a bunch of awesome sale rack finds for Harper and tried not to buy one of everything at h & m. their baby clothes are to die for, and on the cheap. MAYBE Harper is the proud new owner of a swimsuit with pink hippos on it. as i was parusing through macy’s i hear Harper poop (oh yeah, you can hear it). my first thought was to go to Nordy’s. they have the womens lounge and i could change and feed her there. so on my way from one end to the other of this mall, i see a ‘family lounge’ sign. um, that’s me right? i walk in to find what i can only describe as glorious. about 8 changing stations (built into the counters), each with a sink, wipes and hand sanitizer. to my right, couches and toys for toddlers, and to my left, 3 little rooms with big comfy chairs and a flat screen tv with a curtain for nursing. this place was fancy business. every public place should have one. if they did, i wouldn’t have to stress about where i’m going to change my baby (like the floor of the tully’s bathroom – ugh).

we decided to give Harper her first food last night. although i can’t really consider rice cereal ‘real food’, it’s more solid than milk. we set her up in her highchair with a bib (i almost cried seeing her sitting in it, she looked so big). her first bite, she tried to grab the spoon, but it only took her a few tries to get the hang of it and after that she opened her mouth real big if the spoon came at her. so cute. she did great! i was surprised at how much actually went in her mouth, i was expecting it to all be spit out, but i think she liked it. our little nugget is growing up…

Did you make it over to Sephora? Guess that’s just where I would spend the day at Southcenter. Can’t get over Harper sitting up in the high chair…and eating!
